Diversity Position Paper

Diversity, Dignity, and the Transformative Power of the Gospel

Orlando Christian University is a Christ-centered institution committed to honoring and respecting economic, cultural, and racial diversity within its academic community. Grounded in Scripture, the university affirms that all people are uniquely created in God’s image (Psalm 139) and that diversity is a God-given gift that enriches the learning environment and glorifies Him.

The university’s approach to diversity is rooted in the transformative power of the Gospel, which shapes thoughts, attitudes, and actions. Through Christ, barriers that divide humanity are removed, creating unity where division once existed (Ephesians 2:19–22). Human sin can distort relationships through prejudice or misunderstanding, yet the Gospel calls the community to repentance, humility, forgiveness, and sacrificial love.

Orlando Christian University affirms this call and the inherent value and dignity of every person. Each individual bears God’s image, and their worth is not dependent on social, cultural, or economic status (James 2:8–9). God intentionally places individuals within diverse cultural contexts, reflecting His wisdom and design. This diversity enriches our understanding of God’s creativity in creation and highlights the redemptive work in humanity, which is actively celebrated within our university community.

Fostering respect for diverse backgrounds requires commitment to unity, accountability, and Christ-like conduct. The university assumes the best of every community member, approaches interpersonal interactions with humility, and emphasizes forgiveness and mutual responsibility (1 Corinthians 13:7; Ephesians 4:32; Romans 3:23). These principles guide our campus environment characterized by integrity, relational maturity, and grace.

Orlando Christian University sets instructional objectives and campus behavioral standards to disciple hearts and shape Christian character (Proverbs 22:6; Deuteronomy 6:6–9). Discipline related to racial or cultural infractions is administered equitably and redemptively, with Christ-likeness as the ultimate goal (II Timothy 3:16–17).

Through the intentional integration of the Gospel, affirmation of every person’s God-given dignity, and a commitment to assume the best of all community members, Orlando Christian University cultivates a Christ-centered learning environment. This environment prepares students to serve as God-exalting, Gospel-proclaiming leaders in their homes, churches, communities, and across the nations (John 17:20–22).
